When Science met God…

Segment Six

Lost in Time…

Life of memories & dreams

She was almost paralysed by the surge of emotion. ‘Betrayal’ was incessantly running through her head. Several months had passed… and yet time had stood still. Locked in an embrace with that haunting moment from her past, she was lost in the emotional upheaval of a bygone time. He had walked away from the past and could almost taste the success of the future. He envisaged every moment could be filled with joy and care… but they were merely his hopes and dreams for a potential, aching to be built from a broken past. God soothed his brow and kissed...

The Flip Book

God was intently looking into the book in his hand. Science peeped over his shoulder to see a pencil sketch of a family with a kid. Sensing the presence of Science over his shoulder, the Lord said: God: Do you know what this is? Science: Well! It looks like a drawing by some child depicting his family. God: It is! And it is also quite famous on earth. This is the flip book used in the Indian film Taare Zameen par. Know what is a flip book? Science: Oh yes! It is a series of sequential drawings placed one after...

The Potential

“Your generation just doesn’t know how to stay contented!” said the father looking at his son with great disappointment.  The son had a few years ago joined his father's business.  Having learnt the ropes, he was now keen to bring about several changes in the organization both to increase profitability and to improve productivity.  For a change the son was seated on a straight back chair even as his tense father was walking up and down the room. Father:  You are always thinking of more and more...  Why would you want to change a winning formula?  It is time you...

Just a snowflake

Two young men were watching the snow fall.  Each was viewing it from his own unique perspective. The first young man was religious and pious. To him, the snow kindled the miraculous presence of God.  To the second who was a research scientist, it was the display of thermodynamics.  God watched them and decided they needed to interact.  Suddenly the tables in the cafe were all taken and the two chosen young men had to share a table. Man 1:  Is someone joining you? Man 2:  (Looking up from his laptop) Eh? No!  Please... Man 1:  (Settling his coffee mug...

Changing your past…

The teacher (Miss Ginger) smiled…  ‘What are you most curious about, Shamrock? Things that have already happened, or things that are going to happen?’ ‘I’m most curious about anything that’s a mystery!’ Ginger blinked. This one could widen the world. A white-masked kit stood near, listening.  ‘I’m most curious about what’s going to happen!’ The teacher nodded.  ‘You’re like most of us, Hopper.  What’s already happened, our own history, isn’t as exciting for us as creating new futures.’  She smiled.  ‘Why not, Shamrock?’ ‘Because we can make any new future come true,’ said the kit, ‘because the future isn’t finished. ...

Curiosity will kill the cat

It was apparent that Meera was upset.  She was holding on with great fortitude.  However it was her friend Nitya who was having a hard time holding her anger in check.  Meera:  You don’t have anything to prove it.  I really think you are over reacting.  Just leave it... Let me see how it unfolds... Nitya:  How can you just wait like that? You have always held the bull by the horns!  Wouldn’t you rather know than wonder.  I mean the signs are all there why not just ask? Meera:  Because the signs are inconclusive!  There are enough logical reasons...

Reality making…

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens Brown paper packages tied up with strings These are a few of my favourite things... When the dog bites When the bee stings When I’m feeling sad I simply remember my favourite things And then I don’t feel so bad from The Sound of Music The city council of Monza, home to Italy’s Formula 1 Grand Prix has passed a law in 2004 barring pet owners from keeping goldfish in curved goldfish bowls. They believe that a fish kept in a bowl has a distorted view...

So Aham

‘You seem to be in deep thought my child. Anything I can do to help’ asked God with a smile looking deep into the eyes of Science sitting in contemplation. Not fully out of his reverie, Science whispered almost to himself ‘They almost look like parallel lines. Never meeting and yet totally intertwined...How is that possible Father?’ Science finished with a perplexed frown. Gently caressing the frowning brow, the Lord smiled into Science’s eyes and replied – ‘Perhaps that is the way it is meant to be!’ Awaking from his trance like preoccupation, Science looked deep into the Lord’s eyes...

When I was you…

We have just begun to watch a new Canadian television series on Time travel. It has always been a fascinating concept to me and this series was no exception - sharing my awe of time with my family. I vividly remember watching the movie ‘Back to the future’ in my childhood, posing enormous questions to my parents on various aspects of the plot. The core of that movie plot revolved around the son traveling into the past and interfering with his mother meeting his father. This highlighted the danger of time travelers destroying their own world. Without his parents meeting,...
